One Water Committee Meets Civil Society: Towards the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum
On 7 July 2026, the One Water Committee gathered some of the leading voices of Italian civil society at the Floating Hub of Marevivo, on the banks of the Tiber, for an open dialogue ahead of the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum, to be held in Rome from 29 September to 2 October 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity to present the Forum programme and open a conversation on themes central to the water agenda: water resource governance, community education and awareness, international development cooperation, scientific research, and the cultural promotion of water as a common good and a defining element of territorial identity.
The involvement of civil society is one of the fundamental dimensions of the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum: alongside institutional decision-makers, scientific experts and private sector actors, non-governmental organisations, foundations, universities and cultural institutions bring an indispensable perspective — that of citizens and communities, who are both the primary recipients of water policies and the driving force behind the change the Forum aims to promote.
Speakers included One Water Committee President Maria Spena, Marco Rago, Vice President and Adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and International Cooperation, and Director General Emilio Ciarlo. Institutional greetings were brought by Ornella Segnalini, Councillor for Public Works and Infrastructure of Roma Capitale. Special thanks go to Raffaella Giugni, Secretary General of Marevivo, for hosting the event, and to all the organisations and civil society representatives who took part in this important moment of exchange.
Registration for the Forum is now open on the official website (Info & Registration). Participation is available for all days of the programme, which will take place at the La Nuvola Convention Centre in the EUR district of Rome.
