One Water co-organizes the 3rd Regional Roundtable on Digital Transformation for the WEFE Nexus in the Mediterranean

Rome, 23–24 March 2026 – A.Roma Hotel
The One Water Committee took part, as a co-organizing partner, in the 3rd Regional Roundtable on Digital Transformation for Advancing the WEFE Nexus in the Mediterranean Source-to-Sea Continuum, a major international event held on 23–24 March 2026 in Rome at the A.Roma Hotel, in a hybrid format. The event marked a key milestone in the ongoing regional consultation process aimed at promoting digital innovation in the integrated management of water, energy, food, and ecosystem resources (WEFE), along the “source-to-sea” continuum.
The Roundtable also served as the final event of the PRIMA ACQUAOUNT project, presenting its impact results, and as an opportunity to take stock of flagship initiatives such as PRIMA TALANOA-WATER, H2020 TRANSCEND, and other related projects. Over the two days, researchers, regional institutions, governments, practitioners, and stakeholders from across the Mediterranean discussed how to scale up and integrate digital solutions—ranging from real-time monitoring systems to advanced modelling, from Decision Support Tools to IoT platforms—into natural resource management processes and public policy design.

Towards an Action Framework for the Mediterranean
The meeting is part of the broader technical and policy process linked to the WEFE Nexus Strategy in the Mediterranean Source-to-Sea Continuum, adopted in 2025 by the Union for the Mediterranean and the Barcelona Convention. The ongoing consultation is now contributing to the definition of the Strategy’s Action Framework, which will guide interventions by Mediterranean countries in the coming years. Digitalization represents one of the four thematic pillars of the Action Framework, and the Rome Roundtable provided technical inputs and operational recommendations that will directly feed into this process.

A shared vision towards the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum
The Roundtable discussions are part of the broader pathway leading to the upcoming Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum, which will place particular emphasis on the WEFE Nexus Strategy and the Source-to-Sea approach, both recognized as central pillars for regional cooperation on water resources. The Forum will represent a key opportunity for multilateral dialogue, where the outcomes of the Rome consultation can be further leveraged and brought into dialogue with other ongoing initiatives in the Mediterranean, fostering a shared vision and identifying potential areas for future collaboration.
